Questions We Get a Lot

For most beginner adults, a longer and wider board — typically in the 7 to 9 foot range with plenty of volume — offers the stability needed to practice paddling and standing up. Foam soft-top boards in this range are especially well-suited to learning because they are forgiving on wipeouts and easier to balance on. If you are unsure, err toward the longer end until your pop-up feels consistent.

Soft-top foam boards have a foam deck and softer edges, which makes them more forgiving during falls and easier to handle for newer surfers. Hard boards — typically made with a fiberglass or epoxy shell — offer more responsiveness and are generally preferred by intermediate to advanced surfers looking for sharper turns and speed. For most people just getting into surfing, a soft-top is the practical and safer starting point.

Inflatable surfboards are a practical option for casual use, travel, and situations where storage space is limited, since they pack down significantly smaller than solid boards. They are generally best suited to flat-water or gentle wave conditions rather than serious surf sessions. If your goal is progression in the water, a solid foam or hard board will give you more reliable feedback and performance over time.

We offer free shipping on most orders within the Continental U.S. — please note this excludes Alaska and Hawaii. If your board is not the right fit, our 30-day return policy gives you time to make the call after it arrives. About Our Surf Boards

Surfboards are the foundation of any time spent in the water — the tool that connects you to the ocean's energy and determines how quickly your skills develop. The right board depends on your experience level, the type of waves you are riding, and how you want to feel on the water. Beginners generally benefit from longer, wider boards with more volume, which provide the stability needed to develop balance and confidence before moving to more responsive shapes. As skill progresses, board dimensions typically decrease and the design becomes more refined to support sharper turns and better speed through the water. Construction material matters too — soft foam decks are well-suited to learning and casual sessions, while harder shells offer the responsiveness that more experienced surfers look for. Whether you are paddling out for the first time or returning to the lineup after years away, choosing a board that matches where you are right now is the clearest path to enjoying every session.
